DESCRIPTION: Muralism was an
artistic movement of an indigenous nature that started after the
Mexican Revolution in 1910. It was part of a program designed to
socialize art and proposed the production of works for the people
that dealt with Mexican reality, social struggle and other aspects
of history. Mexican mural painting is one of the most important
phenomena in Mexican contemporary art. Mural painting was declared
the official art of the revolution and was dedicated to the Indian
race that had suffered humiliation for centuries, to the soldiers
who fought for the recovery of the rights of the people, to the
workers and to the farm workers.
